The Island of Koh Tao is well known as Diver's Paradise in Thailand. It lies about 80 km North of Koh Samui and can be reached by daily Express boat Services from Koh Samui. There is also a connection by Speedboat from Chumpon on the mainland. Koh Tao is relatively small but there are quiet a number of Bungalow Resorts around the island, with just an many dive centers.

Except for diving, snorkeling and sunbathing, there is not much to do on Koh Tao. There are no Temples to visit or any other typical tourist attraction, so people just come here for diving or relaxing. The quality of the Resorts on Koh Tao has developed over the years, from small huts for only 50,- Baht per night, to luxury Boutique Resorts with air condition and other amenities for up to 6000,- Baht per night. However, there are still some resorts on the island with accommodation for only around 500,- Baht per night.
