The Island of Koh Chang lies about 400 south of Bangkok, near the Cambodian Border and is part of the Trat province in Thailand. Koh Chang is, after Phuket, Thailand's second biggest Island, with Koh Samui being the No 3.

But even though the island is quiet large and beautifully landscaped, it is still very undeveloped and largely silent. Nearly 70 percent of the area of the island are pristine rain forest, the best-preserved rain forest areas in Thailand.
The coast is made of palm plantations and mangrove forests with white sandy beaches. Several small, beautiful waterfalls invite you to swim in fresh water.
You can find rooms between 200 Baht and 20,000 Baht for the night. Even large hotel chains such as Amari Emerald Cove, have settled on the island. In May 2003 the new airport opened in Trat. Bangkok Airways flies two to three times daily to and from Trat. There are several banks, dozens of ATMs and Exchange Offices, 24 supermarkets (9 Seven Eleven), beer bars, karaoke, European restaurants, discos and live music restaurants on the island. You should however, not expect busy nightlife here, like in Pattaya or Phuket.

You can reach the town of Trat from Bangkok or Pattaya by bus, taxi or plane. The bus ride from Bangkok takes about five hours. Once you arrive in Trat, you have to take a boat to reach Koh Chang or any of the other islands in the area.
