Khao Lak is a beautiful region located about 70 km north of Phuket and is well known fort it's miles and miles of beaches. It can be reached from Phuket Airport within about an hour by taxi or bus.

This region is particularly interesting to visitors who appreciate a beautiful beach and a relatively quiet environment, but who don't want to have a too complicated journey. Khao Lak is surrounded by national parks and stunning nature. In addition, the hotel standard in Khao Lak area is well above average in Thailand.

Khao Lak is not only known as a dream holiday destination but unfortunately also for the tsunami disaster in December 2004, that destroyed Khao Lak almost completely. However, this has not meant the end for tourism, because all the hotels and bungalow resorts has been rebuilt within two years and with considerable improvements to the environment
In the first season after the tsunami, many tourists stayed away which looked like an economic disaster for the region but it has completly recovered since.

Activities in the area include elephant riding, caving, canoeing, a trip to the nearby national parks, snorkeling and diving. Altough Khao Lak does not have any dive spots nearby, it is still the gateway to the world-class dive sites in the Similan Islands, which can be reached within only one hour by speed boat.
