The City of Hat Yai in the South of Thailand is a relatively young town. It has only an about 80 years old history but it has grown up to an important business center in the south of the country. Hat Yai has an international airport but there is only one international daily flight to Singapore, some other flights connecting Hat Yai with Bangkok or Phuket. Hat Yai has also an important railway station, as it lies on the main railway, connecting Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Butterworth in Malaysia with Bangkok. A lot of people from Malaysia and Singapore come here for a weekend trip for shopping and for the nightlife.
For most foreigners, Hat Yai is known as the stop over point for their Visa Runs to Malaysia. You would typically take a bus from Phuket, Krabi or Koh Samui to Hat Yai and then switch to a taxi or mini bus (van) that will take you to the nearby malaysian border to get the exit and entry stamps in your passport and then get back to Hat Yai. Sometimes, it might be convenient to stay in a hotel in Hat Yai, before going back to your holiday destination in South Thailand by bus or train the next morning. Hotels in Hat Yai are listed below.
